Daynotes | a daily journal of our activity | |
Digital Choke | an action that is sometimes needed for your computer; also a short techno-story available here. |
"Daynotes" are popularized by a Internet Web site called the "Daynotes Gang" (http://www.daynotes.com or http://www.daynotes.org), a collection of the daily technical and personal observations from the famous and others. That group started on September 29, 1999, and has grown to an interesting collection of individuals. Readers are invited and encouraged to visit those sites for other interesting daily journals. It was much quieter today than the usual Sunday -- no grandkids, but Jason did stop by. We had a nice dinner of beef stroganoff, then we watched "The Italian Job" again, because Jason hadn't seen it. He enjoyed it, and it was nice to have him stop by. He left about 9:00pm, so we watched "Alias". Then I watched the last part of the original "Mark of Zorro", the 1920's silent movie with Douglas Fairbanks on TCM. The climatic chase scene was well done, with Fairbanks doing all of the stunts. There was much running and climbing of walls, along with a short sword fight.
Other than that, not much news around here. The spam filtering is approaching 30% catch rate, which is quite pleasing. I wonder if anyone will notice the reduction in their mail box tomorrow. The reports are not working right, but I think that's a Java-related thing that should be easily fixed tomorrow.
The fall weather is here. Partly cloudy this morning, and rain this evening, with snow in the mountains. I think it may be time to break out the long sleeve shirts. I'm not sure if I ever got them all unpacked when we moved here.
"There is nothing to see here." -- Zork I
I knew there was something I forgot to do yesterday.
It's going to be a bit thin around here for the next couple of days. I'm working on a couple of projects that area taking up a lot of my spare time. More about that later; probably next week.
I worked with the SurfControl support guys about a few odds and ends regarding the upgrade to the latest version of the anti-spam software. The catch numbers still look good, with the minor fix I did today to a parameter.
Other interesting news; GoogleNews (or your favorite news link) if you want links.
Novell is buying SuseLinux. Apple is having another problem with external drives. Microsoft is putting up a $250K bounty for the author of Blaster and SoBig. The FCC Is getting rules ready to protect digital TV from piracy. Some researchers have found that using "good" cholesterol injections can reduce artery blockage. Tomatoes help fight prostate cancer. There seems to be an 'overeating' gene. And one of the California fires is surrounded.
And an editorial note: I fixed the bad link on the "current" page. If you missed last week, you can get there from here.
