Digital Choke Daynotes |
What's a Daynote?"Daynotes" are daily (usually) journal entries of interesting happening and discussions. They are not 'blogs', which are often just a collection of links to other information (although we do include links occasionally). Daynotes are much more interesting (we hope). These "Digital Choke Daynotes" were inspired by the collection of daily journals of the "Daynotes Gang" (see sites at .com, .org, .net), a collection of daily technical and personal observations from the famous and others. That group started on September 29, 1999, and has grown to an interesting collection of individuals. Readers are invited and encouraged to visit those sites for other interesting daily journals. If you have comments, send us an email. A bit more about me is here. You might also enjoy our little story about the death of the 'net. |

Rainy weekend, sunny this morning, rainy tonight, more rain this week. And the beginning of spring.
Which brings to mind this old ditty, a couple of weeks early: "April showers bring May flowers, and May flowers bring Pilgrims".
Sorry.
How about "Spring has spring, the grass has riz, I wonder where the birdies is."
Enough.
Symantec reports on the PWSteal.Bancos.S virus/worm that will probably become more common. It installs a keystroke logger that watches your browser session for a bank site, then captures your account and personal information. From the description:
Monitors active Internet Explorer windows. When a Web site that matches the characteristics of certain Brazilian banking sites is visited, the Trojan logs keystrokes and steals account details.
Then this step:
Monitors active Internet Explorer windows. When a Web site that matches the characteristics of certain Brazilian banking sites is visited, the Trojan logs keystrokes and steals account details.
Then:
Captures screenshots or displays a fake Web page, depending on what Web site is being visited.
Although this one targets Brazillian banks, it won't take long for the technique to spread.
Be careful out there.
Only worked a half-day today. Left a bit after lunch to get my Aunt June (Dad's younger sister) for a visit with Dad. Lots of family at the house, all gathered around Dad as he rested. Memories shared, with smiles and laughter.
I think that Dad was enjoying the visit, even though he was unable to respond due to his weakened condition.
Robert Alfred Hellewell
July 17, 1917 - March 23, 2005
My Father with one of his great-grandsons (Maxwell Donald Jensen), Christmas
2004
The funeral notice was published on Thursday.
Robert A. Hellewell's 66-year partnership with his beautiful wife, Nina, has been temporarily interrupted. Bob and Nina, longtime residents of Sacramento, reared a family of 10 children, seven of their own plus the orphaned children of his brother Glen.
Robert was born in Paul, Idaho in 1917 to Robert C. and Cecil Richardson Hellewell. At the age of six a crippling disease left him unable to walk, but he enjoyed a happy childhood, thanks to the creativity of his mother. At the age of twelve surgery provided by the Shriners hospital allowed him to walk again, although residual pain and complications were his life companions. The family expresses its enduring gratitude to the Shriners hospital.
As a young man Bob served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and later married his dear Nina; their marriage was eternally sealed in the Salt Lake Temple. Bob worked at various accounting positions but his enduring passions were his wife, their family, and the gospel of his Savior. He was known for his belief in the Mormon dietary code, the Word of Wisdom, and credits that, in part, for his survival to nearly 88 years in spite of many health problems.
Bob is survived by his ten remarkably diverse children, David, Randy, Steve, Rick, Cindy, Vicki, Linda, Penny, Skip, Sandra and their partners. Bob and Nina have 32 above average grandchildren and 23 exceptional great-grandchildren. Bob also has three sisters, Pearl, June and Marie. He leaves behind a labor of love, his garden.
Although we will all dearly miss father we are
grateful for the shining example of his life, the peacefulness of his passing
and the joy he has now found in reunion with his departed family and
his Lord.
We extend our thanks to the skilled and caring staff at U.C.D. Medical
Center, Metabolism and Organ Transplant Dept., and Hospice. Services
