POST 03.03

It was time to go to the local Raley's to replenish the pantry. I've found that doing simple tasks like grocery shopping or laundry was a good way to let my brain work in the background on problems such as program code or design. It was also a way to relax before a long stint in the computer room.

I set up the alarm system in the house, and got the LeBaron out of the garage. It was only a short drive over to Raley's. I parked the car, and grabbed a grocery cart for a few things - my own personal type of "nerd food". I try to get the basics for a fairly well-balanced diet. I looked at my list: milk, bread, peanut butter, jam, apples, bananas, some pasta and sauces, frozen dinners, orange juice, some cereal (this time: Raisin Bran, Alphabits, and Cheerios). That's the basics. Well, some Ben and Jerry's Cherry Garcia as a treat, and paper goods and detergent, etc., and a new bottle of vitamin supplements. Not a very exciting grocery list, but it was enough to keep me fairly healthy.

There were only five grocery bags, which fit nicely in the trunk of the car. A side trip to the local gas station (cash only, even then I was wary of leaving any trails in cyberspace), then one last stop at Hilda's bakery for some more important supplies. You could really get carried away at Hilda's. Of course, I'd need a couple of dozen of oatmeal raisin cookies, a dozen lemon cookies, and a jelly filled doughnut for the trip home. I also picked up a half dozen of their fresh rolls, and a small loaf of bread. I paid for everything with cash. Hiilda's is a great bakery, and has pretty reasonable prices. A good small-town bakery is a good find.

It only took a few minutes to get home after the stop at Hilda's. I pulled the car into the garage, and brought everything into the house. (No problems with the alarm system.) Got everything put away, and started a small load of laundry. I grabbed the box of Hilda's oatmeal raisin cookies, and a large glass of cold milk, and went into the computer room.
